+Faculty Discussion Panel

"Sustainability" has taken on various forms and meanings for the members of the faculty at the GSD. Panelists were given the opportunity to describe how they integrated environmental sensitivity into their work and teaching (if at all), and to express their opinions on the future of green design as part of the pedagogy at the GSD. Comments ranged from declarations of all that has already been done, to arguments about the validity of the way that green design has so far been pursued.

  +A/T Ambient Task Wall
A demonstration project conceived of and executed by four MArch I second-year students.A standard 2x6 stud wall was used to illustrate the possibility of green design being integrated into a non-customized condition. Drawers were inserted between the studs and contained LED light strips. The drawer cavities varied between opening upwards and downwards toward the floor. The lights inside then shown up or down allowing illumination of shelves or conversely worksurfaces or walkways adjacent to the wall. The project included the installation and use of the first two solar panels to be mounted on the roof of Gund Hall. The 30 LED strips used in the project were all powered by the solar panels.
