Contribute your design skills, shape a new neighborhood space for returning residents of the Lower Ninth Ward. Breakfast + lunch provided. Program consists of brief presentation by NGI, followed by design charrette. Groups will each design one block of Tupelo St. with a neighborhood gathering space in the median, or "neutral ground" as it is called there. This is already a space that neighbors have historically used to gather, chat, barbeque and play games. In the wake of hurricane Katrina, this neighborhood has been very slow to repopulate. NGI wants to provide the residents of Tupelo Street with a gathering space worth coming home to, something to make people feel proud of where they live while they rebuild their homes and neighborhood. There will be a pin-up, casual review with input from all participants, lunch and socializing. Ideas from this charrette will shape the actual installation on Tupelo St., slated for Spring 2009.
