| SUSTAINABLE ALLSTON HARVARD CAMPUS |
| Sustainable Allston is a group formed this Fall by members of Ecology in Design (EiD) and the college's Environmental Action Committee (EAC). The purpose of the group was to lobby the University administration for a green and sustainable new campus in Allston (a major planning effort already underway). On Monday, two members of EiD and two members of EAC represented Sustainable Allston in a meeting with Harvard President Larry Summers and other members of the administration. This meeting was the culmination of a two month campaign of emails and networking with students, faculty and staff from across the campus. At the meeting, President Summers announced the creation of a committee of faculty and staff based around the Harvard Green Campus Initiative who will define Sustainability for all future Harvard developments, including Allston. This definition will be presented to students from Sustainable Allston and others in the community for review before the end of the semester. Read more about this new development in the college's newspaper, The Crimson. This is a big win for EiD and the environment at Harvard in general! There is still more work to be done with Allston and plenty of opportunity to get involved. Hopefully this will inspire some projects for EiD next semester. Think big! |
